I built a journaling app for the work nobody assigns

I run my consulting solo. Client work ships because deadlines push it out. What doesn't ship: the follow-up after the discovery call. The playbook review I scheduled for Sunday. The outbound email I'll write "next week" — for the third week running.

That's the work that fills the calendar in the first place. And exactly that work has no external pressure. Nobody asks. It quietly disappears.

Hokd is my answer. A small app that asks three questions a day — not fifteen.

Three questions

What's the one thing today? A sentence. Concrete enough that ten minutes from now you know whether it's done. Not "clean up the CRM" — "send follow-up to Müller".

What did you finish today? Each thing counts as altitude on a mountain you pick — Watzmann, Zugspitze, Mont Blanc, Everest. Instead of streaks that punish you for missing a day, climb accumulates. You climb a specific peak, not a number.

Did the script work? The playbook function tracks your discovery-call scripts, sales pitches, complaint responses — with version history and outcome per run. After ten calls you see — data-based — which version actually converts. Instead of gut feeling: data.

Reflection themes

Some observations keep returning. "When do I break out of deep work?" "Which clients drag me down?" You create themes, write when something hits — even if that's nothing for weeks.

On iPhone, iPad and Mac with Apple Intelligence, the synthesis runs entirely on-device. No account, no cloud roundtrip, no third-party API. You tap "show patterns" — Apple Intelligence synthesizes locally, your text never leaves the device.

What Hokd intentionally is not

  • Not a team tool. Hokd is explicitly single-user.
  • No web version. Native on Apple platforms, done.
  • No AI that writes emails for you. You write, the app reflects with you.
  • No gamification beyond the mountain. No XP, no points, no badges.
  • No streak counter. Missed days don't punish you.

What it does:

  • iCloud sync across iPhone, iPad, Mac
  • Mac menu bar — two keystrokes and you're in the logbook
  • Home-screen widget
  • Fully offline
